24-26 June 23
It has been a whirlwind of activity and intermittent wifi and access to the internet after I left Lecce to join the Italian Residency. More to follow on that. I had completed my short Lecce post below beginning that. I think I will compose the experience in small packages as I continue this adventure.
I left Rome for a 5-hour train ride to Lecce. Here I spent only two days until picked up for Art Residency in Santa Catarina.
I take a cab to my BnB and I am immediately disappointed. It is three stories up, with no air conditioning, and limited Wifi. There is also an excavation outside my window that is not happening over the weekend but starts on Monday, my last day there at 6 am with a bull-dozer scraping stone in a pit of what appears to be something of antiquity below that echoes. Thank goodness it was on my last day.
Lecce is a small but a clean and beautiful town in the Puglia area of Italy, where they wash the streets daily. I didn’t do much there except enjoy wandering the beautiful streets and park and of course, ate amazing meals.
I did meet up with my fellow residents the last night for an aperitif (cocktail) with the curator/host for our collaborations. Below is the announcement and a press release of the program.
